Pioneer Place

Pioneer Place: An exhibition exploring themes of journey, place and identity.

This exhibition was created by children and young people aged 4 to 21years with the support of professional artists and educators. This exhibition travels through generations and materials, resulting in an exciting and insightful response to October Gallery artists from around the planet.

The OG Youth Collective, Coram’s Fields Youth Centre and various school groups, afterschool clubs and family learning sessions have explored the themes of journey, place and identity, using a variety of artistic mediums including painting, photography, film, poetry and installation.

The inspiration came from various exhibitions and artists represented by October Gallery, particularly the recent exhibition ‘Hidden’ by LR Vandy.

We used the themes within her work to examine our own journeys and identities as well as explore the history of the October Gallery, a pioneer in exhibiting artists from around the world, which this year celebrates its 40th Year.
