Collaborative Map: Finding Flight
This participatory activity was part of a larger family day held at the British Library: Festival of Maps aimed at Deaf Families. I studied several maps, looking at the flight patterns of migrating birds and then of human travel and movement around the world and drew a large charcoal map on the wall which over the course of the day was to be filled with prints of birds, footsteps and animals to mark the participants journeys around the world. We also created origami birds using paper, metallic oil pastels and gold leaf to hang up in front of our collaborative map to make a final installation.
